Then let me explain in more simplistic terms—

• from love or passion, from intent or by accident you have a child
• for whom you supply the essentials of life:  food, clothing, shelter, love
• for about two decades
• teddy bears, toy rifles, toy guns, toy tanks, toy grenades, toy bombers
• and education, sports gear, music stuff, shoulder to cry on etc whilst
• meeting costs of education and medical/dental care, insurances etc
• feeding the college fund and meeting excess overruns when due …
• etc etc et-bloody-cetra

In short, YOU spend a small fortune raising every child. Okay, so far we’ve been hard-headed and practical but there’s the other, softer, very real side—you’ve nurtured and raised a unique individual human being. You’ve loved this person for all of his (and increasingly these days:  her) life.

And now just as this unique beloved individual human being—flesh of your flesh, blood of your blood—is stepping into the independent life of adulthood—your Government claims him as property. Your kid ‘signs up’ either from misguided patriotism or seeking adventure (as portrayed by Hollywood); or maybe gambling with his life for an independent financial footing. (Perhaps, coming soon to an America near you, conscription?)

Joining up is making a pact with the Devil.  Once in he’ll be treated like ordure (means shit) and will have no come-back or redress. Anyone can do anything to him (and they will, too) to break him to fit their mould. The human being you raised will be scientifically dehumanised. After which he’ll be sent by the ethics-free to ‘fight’ for their ambitions in places he knows nothing about against people who in the main are simply fighting as best they can for their own freedom against the invader. He will be led by the incompetent (but ever so be-medalled) to achieve meaningless transient aims (Hamburger Hill? Which of thousands?)(Or was it Pork Chop Hill … ?) that will be forgotten in the great cesspit of history in no time at all.

When he comes back — if he comes back — it won’t be the same guy that went over; you will be welcoming home an ongoing statistic. It won’t be pleasant, get used to it.

YOUR GOVERNMENT IS SELLING YOU A BILL OF GOODS and you, poor fool, are buying it. The mere fact that you haven’t risen up in outrage against your manipulators means that you have bought into their lies. Ozymandias still rules, as ever.

BUT CHEER UP — if you do send your son or daughter over there (wherever the current ‘there’ is) and he/she gets creamed you will have the comfort of knowing it was for a jolly good cause:  all American presidents need a quick cheap victory to make their name for the history books; and you’ve helped out.

But wait, it’s not all bleak … they’ll send you a lovely Gold Star to stick in your window so everyone passing can see how noble you’ve been.  So when you are waving your son off at the airport or base gate you’ll be able to look him in the eye and say “If you get killed, Son — it will be worth it!”

WHAT IF IN THEIR ‘COMMAND COURSE’ senior US naval officers grooming for flag rank were posed the following field problem:

PART ONE:

SCENARIO

(a) You are the admiral commanding the USS Mightymouse battle group. Your ship is the very latest nuke carrier with a full war load and honed by months of training to a razor’s edge. Your fleet is GOOD … and all of you know it.

(b) Whilst patrolling in the Med you are informed that a signal—patchy but undoubtedly authentic—has just been received: an unarmed US naval supply ship of twelve thousand tons with 240 crew aboard has for the last two hours come under sustained air and sea attack by forces unknown. They have taken one torpedo, many bombs, aerial cannon fire, napalm, and the decks have been swept clean of life by multiple strafing runs.

(c)  On board there have been heavy casualties, with so far about eighty percent of the complement being either killed or wounded. Most of the wounded are so badly hurt that unless aid is received in the next few hours most will die. If fighter cover cannot be provided soonest the ship will be sunk with all hands (even the liferafts launched in an attempt to evacuate casualties have been machine-gunned).

QUESTION ONE:

As commanding officer of one of the most powerful battle groups ever assembled—what do you do?

PART TWO

Assuming that your immediate response was to despatch everything with teeth that could fly to relieve the beleaguered vessel; and that your second action was to inform Washington of what you have just done:  your counterstrike defensive force has been airborne for ten minutes and well on its way to the ship when a signal is received from Washington ordering you to rescind your actions and return all fighters to Mightymouse immediately. The ‘immediately’ is repeated for emphasis and the signal signed by the Naval Head Honcho himself.

QUESTION TWO:

What do you do now?

PART THREE

Assuming that being a good little admiral you have ordered the return of all fighters (and threatened with court martial the only pilot who at first refused) and you have just turned down another desperate plea for help from the surviving officer on the floating hulk informing you that another napalming run on his ship has just commenced—

What do you do now, given that to obey Washington is to consign that US navy ship and its crew to certain painful death?

PART FOUR

You have just been patched through to the President himself to make a plea for freedom of action; and to your horror the President Of The United States of America has personally ordered you (in his capacity as supreme Head Honcho of all US forces) to pull your head in and apply the ‘Nelson touch’ (i.e. turn a blind eye).

QUESTION FOUR

What do you do now … send in the fighters and blow the bad guys out of the sky (and with them your medals, commission, honours, career, and any hope of a pension) or do you leave what’s left of the crew of that blazing ship to their fate—thereby assuring your future and your position in the post-naval-service pecking order? Your call …

THIS ‘HYPOTHETICAL BATTLE PROBLEM’ is not as simplistic as it may seem. I will go so far as to admit I suspect that it (or some variants thereof) is/are very probably being used right now to sort the sheep from the goats at the very highest levels of the US navy into just two streams:

a)  Good dependable guys who will do as ordered regardless

b)  Unreliable guys who might actually try to safeguard their underlings and ships

For myself I am grateful that I am not, never have been, and never shall be in the American Navy or other armed forces. Not if this is how US officers regard their men, at any level. And if I were an American I would be absolutely ashamed that the whole sorry affair of the USS Liberty in 1967 wasn’t dragged out of the closet and given the most public airing possible; with the President himself sub-poenaed to explain his actions if necessary.

Even after forty-plus years — especially after forty-plus years — America should be outraged.

But no, it’s business as usual: the US taxpayer (that’s you, Dude) buys bombs and bullets and napalm and torpedoes for the Israeli war machine. What is it now? Over three thousand millions of dollars worth every year; as “aid”? Your tax dollars at work, enjoy.

The way things are going it looks as if Israel is going to commit the United States to a war it cannot win (paid for by whom? Don’t ask) at very short notice — and this forty-plus years after rubbing ol’ Sam’s nose in his own excrement and using his own ‘made with love and care in America‘ guns, bombs, bullets, and torpedoes. IF YOU ARE YOUNG, wide-eyed, trusting and innocent you may not give a damn. If you hate America and Americans you definitely won’t give a damn. For myself I give enough damns to draw your attention to a truly heroic American action:  the defense of Liberty. Of the USS Liberty, to be precise.

This issue sticks in my craw, so frequently I re-raise it; and the time is about ripe to remind a nation still spaced out on the mythical Rambo that there actually were heroes in the US military, once; and I don’t mean those clowns who recently murdered an unarmed old semi-cripple in the middle of the night—

No shortage of sites carrying the story, of how in the midst of a frenzied attack the Liberty managed to get off a call for help, a defensive force of US fighters was sent from a carrier only to be recalled by direct orders from Washington … so that the pounding could continue. It did, too.

Attrition, as in nibble-nibble-nibble. You haven’t recognised it as such yet, but it affects you. More so if you own land.

To recap: you think you own your land because you, poor fool, jumped through all the hoops and obfuscations to get it—worked hard, saved hard, raised loans and paid all the attendant vultures (lawyers, surveyors, registrars, councils, City Hall, government agents; fees, fees, licences, fees, more fees and then some) all the while suffering the pangs and heartaches of outraged common sense.

WE ARE GOING INTO A NEW YEAR and the last thing we need is yet more of the same. There is a massive unnoticed crocodile out there going nibble-nibble-nibble and it is nibbling you. Actually, it is gobbling but you are too busy trying to earn your buck to notice all those government agents working just as hard to acquire your property, for themselves, free. You work at your own costs in time and effort, they work in their time at your cost.

Think about it—unless you do, now, and act … it will be too late.

GOING INTO A NEW YEAR we need to look realistically at what is happening to us:   if you owned your own land—be it farm, forest, hills, or city lot—you alone would have sole rights of access and disposition of that land. If you wanted to grow daisies or raise aardvarks, so long as you didn’t damage the interests of your neighbours you could plough and sow, reap and hoe to your heart’s content. As it stands at present you need official government permission (for a fee) to do anything, and another permission (for a fee) to do anything else.

EVEN IF YOU DO NOTHING with that land you still have to get permissions (for fees); and any government agent can swarm all over your place at any time (for a fee) and order you to do things—the doings of which would cost you (in sales-and-value taxes if nothing else) as well as any pertinent fees. They get you there too, in that much of what they want done you don’t know anything about—too busy trying to scratch a life from the soil, who among us has time to wade through thousands of pages of petty regulations? So you get fined for not protecting the environment of the lesser spotted titwart or the greater slimeless snail or some other blasted verminous beetle.

IT IS GETTING WORSE and trust me, it will get worse still. Government agents aren’t people like you and me. They never sleep, they never rest and all the time they are hungry. Their promotion depends on their output and their output is new and better regulations, new and better ways to dip their snouts in your output on its way to market. I’ve worked (worked? Relative term …) for the government and I know what I’m talking about. I’ve also worked the land and owned my own successful businesses. I can see what is coming.

We could short-circuit progress and simply opt right now to work—all of us—for the government on a government wage; you know, turn over all of our ‘property’ to them in return for a lifetime guaranteed salary. It’s been done before, they call it Communism when done in depth or Socialism when they don’t dare go whole hog.

OR WE CAN REVOLT right now and get ourselves organised; to defeat their course before they go too much further. Government should only ever be the servant of the People, not an endlessly voracious bloody monster (guess which we have?)(No prizes, too obvious) butting productive people aside from their own troughs.

IN THE MEANTIME it is a war of attrition — and they are winning.

—and has also called for a return to Compulsory Military Training (CMT)—

… Prosser also wants a return to compulsory military training. So, does he think he can persuade his NZ First colleagues to his way of thinking? … On compulsory military training: “There will be the pacifists, the weaklings, the other cowards and bludgers … who will conscientiously object … they can spend a couple of years picking up rubbish off the beaches and digging out long-drops*  for DOC instead.”

I sense a latent dictator coming out of the closet. As a ‘newly promoted’ he obviously wants the serfs to know their place. I suspect this new broom will try to wield a big stick—

• Dress right! (As I say, peasant!)
• Get yerself regimented! (To better serve me, peasant!)
• Conform! (Or else …)

NZ still retains some of the facade of a Free Country. So if the ‘equality of Human Rights‘ is to have any meaning then no religious dress—or any dress at all, actually—may be banned without banning all dress similar; which would immediately ban the traditional Christian nun. And motorcyclists, divers, robocops, herbicidal maniacs, bee keepers etc.

COMPULSORY MILITARY TRAINING — the very concept tells us at once that the government regards its citizens as property. Not as people (human beings with rights) but as chattels in the same class as geese, dogs, cattle, and lambs for the slaughter. Human ‘resources’ in fact—but not people. If Prosser is typical of governments then we have a real problem.

Ownership of human beings was once commonplace but I believe is now illegal under international law. Only under slave systems may a person own another: any form of conscription or ‘compulsory’ service is slavery. Not good.

HOW MUCH CMT? Traditionally in this Free Country it was three months and applied to all males on reaching a certain age. So Prosser is demanding that all citizens be seized, incarcerated without trial for three months and force-fed ‘military virtues’ (an oxymoron if ever there was one, much like ‘military intelligence’)—which means be brainwashed and indoctrinated. With no right of appeal.

But it gets better, Prosser recognises that not every wimp, pacifist, weakling, coward, and bludger wants to be forced to learn how to kill, injure, maim and torture their fellow human beings—so he graciously condescends to an escape route of sorts for the ‘conshies’ (conscientious objectors). They can, he says smugly, serve in a non-military capacity; thus slithering even further out of his closet. Be warned, this is a genuine no-nonsense macho male dribbling, here.

Serve? Interesting word … a servant serves for hire or reward. There’s an element of choice involved … you know, freedom?

A slave serves because of the knife at his throat—just so you know the difference. No choice. Might makes right and to hell with wimpish principles like choice and rights.

His throat? In this age of liberated sexual equality it’s our womenfolk Prosser wants as much as our young men. So regardless of how you brought her up, your lovely daughter is off to Camp Runamuck for three months to learn how to swear like a trooper and shit in public. Nice one, Dick!

If Prosser tries to justify the exercise as pre-empting a requirement to defend this land against invasion (by whom?)(Oh, really?) he is demonstrating his ignorance not only of morality but of matters military. A couple of hundred ‘three-month’ grunts with rifles cannot defend this land. Nor could a few thousand, or a hundred thousand. Simply: it cannot be done. Read on …

PREVIOUS GENERATIONS OF POLITICAL LEADERS have left this country defenseless, by de-fanging the already pathetic Royal New Zealand Air Force and reducing it to an air transport service. Without air cover any number of ground troops is simply any number of targets, petty annoyances on the road to conquest—despite their all-singing all-dancing three whole months (wow!) of military training.

So: what are Prosser’s real motives?

• Is he simply spouting off, now that he’s gained what Mark Twain succinctly called “insect authority”? Possibly.
• Is he an idiot? Possibly.
• Or is he trying to set the scene—to condition the unthinking now for greater losses of liberties later? Probably.

And when you’ve thought it through, here’s another that may be a bit more of a challenge:  CAN YOUR SLAVE FIGHT FOR ‘FREEDOM’?

OUR OWN PROBLEM right now is to anticipate what ‘they’ will tax in order to fund their own shortfalls. They blow the budget, you pay for it. Think ‘austerity measures’ writ huge—so what will they tax that isn’t already taxed?

Windows were done in Elizabethan times, so they’re out. The Scots did roofs so that’s old hat. The Brits tried to bring in a ‘being alive’ tax (they called it a Poll tax) but it stirred up too much protest. Property taxes could be expanded but the politicians own too much property themselves so that’s a non-starter.

MY PICK:  they will tax taxes. They’ll set up a computer program to add up all the taxes you pay, then zonk you with (say) forty percent on the lot. It will of course be just a Temporary Measure … only until our ship is clear of the typhoon or we’re out of the swamp, that sort of thing.

FAILING THAT they’ll tax food. And claim that we’re all too fat anyway (actually, I’m not …) so what they’re doing by taxing food will be sold to you as win/win all round. A Saudi woman trying with a degree of desperation to warn western women of the dangers involved in becoming involved with a Saudi male. Apparently Islam as practised in Saudi Arabia tends to treat women ‘not nicely’. The religious leaders are adamant that Men are infinitely superior and their women are vehicles for procreation only (and none too sanitary at that). To each is own.

I’VE STATED OFTEN ENOUGH without serious challenge that a person’s religion is essentially a matter of geography and/or timing. At another time or in another place you, you devout Bible-thumping God-fearing (fear? Why?) Christian could (would) equally be/have been a Jain, Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim, Shintoist, Jew, Wiccan … ad infinitum. But whatever you are now you won’t have a bar of it, of course. I like that in an open mind, brook no argument.

IF YOU ARE A CHRISTIAN you are a follower of the One True God, who gave his only beloved son etc etc (query: are the Catholics still burning Protestants at the stake? Are the Protestants still torturing Catholics? It’s so hard to keep up …) and will brook no discussion, argument, or anything less than total obeisance. To God. As seen by you.

IF YOU ARE A MUSLIM you are a follower of the One True God etc etc … (whether Sunni or Shi’ite. Or whatever else) and will brook no discussion, argument, or anything less than total obeisance. To God. As seen by you.

IF YOU ARE A JEW you are a follower of the One True God etc etc … and will brook no discussion, argument, or anything less than total obeisance. To God. As seen by you.

GOD, of course, is (a) almighty (means omnipotent) and (b) infinitely merciful and compassionate. Being that the same God serves in the same office for Jews, Christians, and Muslims an outsider might think that there is hope for the future; but no, that same merciful all-loving Compassionate omnipotent floats idly by whilst the Jews of Israel rain blazing phosphorus down on Islamic universities and the terrorists of Islam fire home-made rocket-bombs across the border into the Lands God gave His chosen people millennia back. God loves a good scrap, it seems—knowing the future in advance must make it hard for him to take bets with Himself as to the outcome, but being omnipotent (can do anything) of course that’s no problem.

RELIGION WHILST MAKING NO SENSE to a rational person is nonetheless a marvellous way for the unscrupulous to exploit their fellow beings—for the acquisition of power and wealth. And this is entirely what it is all about.

I BELIEVE IN THE RIGHTS OF MAN

Where ‘Man’ means humankind as a whole. As a whole, note—if you are male or female, black or white, green, old or young, yellow, or purple spotted with big warts … so long as you are Human you have Human Rights.

One of those Human Rights is the right to believe in whatever irrational conjured-up ‘divine’ being you wish. You have the right to believe in your God, gods, goddesses, godlets, or even the Great Sacred Earthworm if you wish—and I would fight for your right to be that irrational if I had to. Would that the followers of the Abrahamic religions would do so …

THE MISTAKE YOU MAKE is in trusting the soothsayers who put themselves forward as God’s voice. If the Omnipotent (means He/She can do absolutely anything) wants to talk to you … do you honestly think for one moment that He or She would need a blasted priest, mullah, imam, saint, angel or whatever translating His words?

So … what is in it for the mullah, priest, or other con-man? As they say in America “Follow the money!” and it makes very good sense to see exactly who it is that prospers by yoking the power of your beliefs (CLUE:  it isn’t you).

ORGANISED RELIGION is Big Business, nothing more and nothing less. Big business seeking power not over your soul but over you. Organised religion is prostitution to a very large degree: “You’ve got it, you sell it, you’ve still got it”. So who is the prostitute, who the ‘John’, and who the pimp?

Christian, Jew, Muslim … same God, different franchise. Born in Saudi Arabia there’s an almost certainty that you will will be/are Muslim. The religious leaders have set it up to be so. Born in the great Bible-belt of the USA there’s an almost certainty that you will be Christian, and for the same reasons.

IF I COULD OFFER JUST ONE RULE to the victims of geopolitical indoctrination it would be simply this: look for contradictions (and don’t be fobbed off with pap answers):

—where ever you find an apparent contradiction look to the premises, one of which at least is false.

Loving, merciful, compassionate all-powerful God … and napalm?  Aw, come on, give me a break …
